Russell Armstrong Is Proof That Killing Myself Would Be Final

At any given moment, life can be turned upside down by one event. Not only by events that affect thousands or millions such as war, a large scale terrorist attack, tsunami, fire and plague, but by things that happen just to one person or family like the suicide of Russell Armstrong, husband of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" cast member, Taylor Armstrong. He no longer has a voice or an opinion because he killed himself - no second chances, replays or do-overs. Russell is gone and it is final.

When I was growing up, there was a family on our street that kept to themselves, were very quiet, but seemed happy. The handsome father would always be doing something with and for the family: cooking on the grill, teaching the children to ride bicycles, building a tree house, washing the car, flying kites, playing catch or a hundred other things.

One day, the father took the children somewhere and the mom stayed home. It was just a regular excursion. Nothing out of the ordinary. Well, at least that is what they all thought first thing in the morning as the family car backed out of the driveway.

Not too long after they had left home, life dramatically changed for the family. As the car with the father and children were driving down the highway, a car coming from the opposite direction drove over the concrete median and became airborne. The little family was in the wrong place at the wrong time because the airborne car had a head on collision with them.

The father and one child immediately died.

The family would forever be different.

Unlike the Tsunami in Japan or the terrorist bombing of the Twin Towers in New York City, Presidents, Kings and Prime Ministers of nations did not call and offer their condolences to my childhood neighbors. I remember her friends, family and people from her church visited, but the flags at the Capitol in Washington D.C. did not fly at half-mast. It was not that this family was not important, but it was just one family that had a terrible misfortune so the rest of the world had no knowledge of the tragedy or the pain that the living relatives suffered.

The mother had lost a husband and a child, so the catastrophe may not have included thousands of people, but it was still a heart-wrenching, soul-piercing catastrophe for the family.

"Your history is no less important to your
survival than your ability to breathe.
In the end,
you can only determine whether to
saturate your memories with
pain or with perspective.
Forgetting is not an option."
~Ted Dekker~

The other day, I wrote about the first time I went "insane" which was at the end of my parents marriage and shortly before their divorce. While writing the post, I could feel all the emotions from those moments. The scene was like a movie and I seemed to hover above the whole room. I watched as I freaked out and felt great compassion for the thin redheaded child whose heart was breaking and mind was filled with confusion.

My fingers stopped typing and I just let the whole scene play out while I felt all the emotions come and eventually dissipate like fog on an early morning in Autumn. After taking a deep breath, I resumed typing the rest of my post thankful that those days are over.

The next morning as I read the comments, I found one from my sister which said...
"I feel like I'm going to throw up. Reliving all that is heart-wrenching. I wish I could wash all of those memories out of my head."
I immediately thought of Job from the Bible and Helen Keller. Job had everything - possessions, riches and family - and he lost it. Job was determined not to curse God and insisted on believing that he would be blessed in spite of what others, including his wife, said about his circumstance. Eventually, Job once again acquired great wealth and even had more children.

Helen Keller, like Job, suffered. Before Helen Keller was two years old, she got very sick and it caused her to become deaf and blind. She was very frustrated, but eventually learned how to communicate with others. Life was not easy, yet she became a world-famous speaker and accomplished author.

Both Job and Helen Keller suffered through adversity, but in the end used what they had learned to mold themselves into better people.

"Character cannot be developed
in ease and quiet.
Only through experience of
trial and suffering
can the soul be strengthened,
vision cleared,
ambition inspired,
and success achieved."
~Helen Keller~

I am not Job.

I am not Helen Keller.

I am not the mother who was my childhood neighbor.

I am me and that is all I can be. I have my own unique set of traits, strengths and weaknesses. No one else will ever inhabit the Earth and be just exactly like me. I am completely unique. None of my unique characteristics make me better or worse than anyone else - it is just me.

A little over fifteen months ago, I had a very traumatic event happen in my life which was followed shortly thereafter with yet another very traumatic event. Both were completely unexpected and have totally altered my life. In PTSD and Slap Yourself, I revealed to some extent the hellish nature of my affliction due to my body's reaction to the trauma I experienced. Since writing that post, I discovered that I am even more unique than I formerly believed.

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) flashbacks usually happen at most a few times a day. During those moments, it is as if the person is living through the traumatic event all over again. Their heart races, breath quickens, blood pressure rises and all the chemicals related to the "fight or flight response" are released. Those moments are very anxiety producing and can cause the person to feel physically ill. Usually all normal activity comes to a halt until the flashbacks end.

I too have suffered flashbacks. Not just one, two or even three times a day, but constantly. When I say "constantly," I mean every minute of every hour of every day that I am awake, I have a one minute moment of the most traumatic event of my life replaying in my head. Stop and think about what I just said. From the moment I open my eyes and all during everything I am engaged in doing throughout the day, that awful and sickening moment is happening. I say that it is happening because my body has the same response it did when the event actually occurred. This continuous loop, I have just recently discovered, is not the normal PTSD flashback.

The extreme number of PTSD flashbacks has definitely taken a toll on my mind and body. A human body is not made to withstand so much trauma day after day and if forced to do so, eventually the adverse affects take their toll.

I have been almost catatonic some days as I struggled to pay attention to the present while my mind replayed the past traumatic event. Insanity was so close and on many days, I felt that I could not live one more moment of the agony. Nothing would stop the continuous flashback of my child's limp gray body, not breathing as her lips turned a darker blue with each passing second. Not only do I have this visual flashback, but I also can hear myself screaming in a voice that sounds so filled with pain that I can't hardly stand listening. However, I have no choice but to see and hear the scene because the flashback is persistent and will not go away.

I think that even the most sane individual would find this type of existence hard to live.

It has been nearly impossible.

Only knowing that my daughter still needed me, kept me trying to hold onto sanity and life...barely. There is only so much that a mind and body can actually take before it freaks out completely. Some things are completely out of our control and when insanity takes over, nothing matters any more.

Nothing.

"One thing you can't hide -
is when you're crippled inside."
~John Lennon~

It is not just depression, although I have been very depressed.

It is not just hopelessness, although I have been unable to see past my flashbacks.

It is not just physical exhaustion, although my body has been depleted as my heart raced all day long.

It is not just lack of memory, although fighting the scene in my flashbacks has made it nearly impossible to remember things that are currently happening to me.

It is not just disappointment with my former bosses, who could have helped me in many ways and instead chose to make my employment circumstances harder.

It is not just my former therapist, although he obviously was not that versed in helping someone with extreme PTSD.

The insanity has been a combination of all these things and more. Although killing myself would be quick, easy and completely end all my current hellish struggles, it would also be very final.

Too final.

When my daughter graduated from high school, the entire event jolted my mind and PTSD flashbacks that were happening every second of every minute of every day, started only happening three or four times a day. You would think that was a completely positive thing, but it was not. My body no longer has the huge rush of adrenaline throughout the day, so I dropped into an even worse depression. Because there started to be hours when I was flashback free, I realized how awful my circumstances have been. Extreme emotions filled my mind as my body felt the effects of having been revving in high gear for so very long.

I desperately tried to just "fake it," but it eventually became completely impossible to have any semblance of a healthy facade. I have not been a fully functioning individual and desperately wanted my old self back.

At times I felt that I was going to die either from a heart attack or by my own hand. While in some of my darkest and most unclear moments, I became the most clear about depression, anxiety, regret, hopelessness, love, selfishness, death, life and suicide. At one of my weakest moments, I reached out one more time for help and was not rejected. I sobbed on the phone to a stranger for a very long time and then she gave me the phone number of someone else - someone that specializes in PTSD and recovery.

I am starting to feel something akin to hope which has been completely absent from my life for a long time. Visions of my own demise are not torturing me day and night any longer. The lack of continual flashbacks has allowed a silence like a warm blanket to wrap around me. The traumatic event with the terrible visual and agonized screaming plea to God for mercy, arrives in short-lived flashbacks that I understand and cope with more sanely.

Life is still hard and the healing is slow.

My body is weak.

My emotions are raw. No one will ever know the full extent of my hellish agony.

My mind is a bit foggy.

My soul has been pierced and will never be the same, but I am alive. More importantly, I want to be alive.

Rockin' Friends Spotlight - Puzzled

"The strongest
have their moments
of fatigue."

~Friedrich Nietzsche~

Puzzled

When you look back on your life, so often you can say, "Wow! I'm so glad THAT happened or I would never have been able to enjoy THIS!" However, there are those times we look back and think, "Why?! Why?! Why did that have to happen to me?!"

I'm living the "Why?!" statement now.
    Tough luck.

    Bummer.

    Too bad.

    Keep going.

    Suck it up.

    This too shall pass.

    Keep your chin up.

Trust in God and give it all to him.

    So sorry.

Tomorrow will be a better day.

All these things are for your experience.
Obviously, I'm not doing or believing in those statements much.

As I'm sure you are well aware, I have a strong faith in God, but if I am honest, I feel black listed, shunned and tortured. The only thing that has kept me alive is that faith because without it, I would have already been gone. There comes a point when there is just too much unhappiness, turmoil, anxiety and struggling. I keep feeling that I can not take even one more step.

It's pathetic that I want to give up and quit after all I have been through and accomplished to this point. I try to dwell on the future, but it seems too overwhelming. I am taking the future in small morsels at this point. If I think too much about it, I start to feel panic.

I take the present one hour at a time unless I'm at work and then it is one minute at a time since I now hate my job. I've been betrayed and since I take it personally instead of just looking at it as "business," I'm hurt. Really hurt. Crushed. I won't ever put myself in that predicament again.

As the weekend ended, I was disappointed and hurt with my family. They know how I am suffering. They can see it when they look at me. They can feel it as they look around our home. They can hear it by the silence that seems to echo within the walls of our home. With my only goal being to put up a Christmas tree, no one wanted to help. Not only with the tree, but with anything else in the house.

I'm puzzled and confused.

Haven't I always been there for them?

Don't I always do things to keep the home moving without a hitch?

Will I get up again in the morning to go to work and put food on the table, clothes on their back, roof over their head and vehicles or gas under their feet?

Are all the things I do not appreciated?

Am I expected to give up all my life as a servant to their needs, whims and desires as if I exist only to make their life more pleasant?

So my home life is feeling like my work life and I'm not liking either one.

What's left?

I'm at a true cross roads in my life. I've never had more knowledge in my head, talent, or qualities worthy of love and appreciation, yet I am so unhappy. It really is rather ridiculous and it even makes me angry.

All I know is that I don't like the road I'm on and it won't be long before I definitely get off of it - one way or the other - with or without anyone else. There is only so much pain that one person can take before they explode and disappear. I should know...I've been there and done that before and I didn't give up.

I'm not the same person any more and I just don't have the same drive to keep on plowing through a huge pile of manure and a mountain of rock. Something has got to change. Something has to let up on me. Something has to because I'm not going to stay puzzled for much longer.

Okay, that was a lot of typing without taking a breath.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

(Asthma) Cough. Cough.

(Inhaler puffing noise.)

Hmmm...at least I'm not saying hooooo hooooo heeeee heeee. For those of you that don't recognize the hoooo heeee thing - that's the way the nurses tell you to breathe when you are in labor, having contractions and the baby is getting close to being delivered.

No, I'm not having a baby. That was simply my attempt at a little comic relief to help us move to the next lighter and happier topic.

With all that behind us for now, we can enjoy the celebration of my friends who send me love and hugs on a daily basis. They are a great group of women who know what matters most in this life and practice what they preach.

This week the special spotlight is shining on Deb of Just Short of Crazy. Deb's "About Me" is as follows:.

"A semi-crazy 40 something "livin the dream." I'm a mom, wife, business owner, and full-time employee (because said business doesn't make enough $$$$). I love photography, travel, reading, wine, and creating."

I started looking at Deb's blog from the oldest to newest postings. Have you ever picked blueberries? Well, I loved reading Berry Picking & Alpaca's. Cute animals too, but I know they will spit at you. That's another story altogether.

Birthdays have always been a big deal to me, so I can remember when I too thought Oh. My. 40.

I couldn't pass this one up because I'm a sucker for a Sunrise.

You will hear Deb's excitement and a huge sigh of relief when you read So Proud

"Oh my, great big hugs to my son!!! I'm so very proud of him. Years of teaching have been put to the test and he passed with flying colors."

I really enjoyed Silk Tie Dyed Eggs! I love all that crafty stuff. However, I tried to blow eggs a few times and just imagine a moose blowing eggs. Yeah, I don't think my eggs would look like Bev's beautiful eggs.

You're not going to find this stuff Blooming now, but it is nice to enjoy while the wind is howling outside.

Who could resist a post entitled Say Hello To My New Baby? I know Deb's is tickled pink every day!

Since we do the same thing, I loved the post and especially the pictures in Strawberry Pickin'. I could almost smell the fields. If you ever get the chance to pick strawberries...take it! You'll never forget the fragrant fruit wafting in the air and the taste of warm strawberries that were just picked ten seconds earlier. Yum!

There are also other posts that you won't want to miss:
I'm so glad that I've been able to get to know Deb better since she has become active in my community and by reading her blog. Be sure to add Just Short of Crazy to your blogroll, but also come over and chat with Deb in my community.

Emotional Colander

Depression,

Hopelessness,

Anger,

Sadness,

and Regret

are like a colander.

They drain you.

Today as I sat in my soon-to-be-new-office and was told about my new role-and-responsibilities in a position I-didn't-want-to-take-but-have-to-anyway, I smiled and held back sobs of depression, hopelessness, anger, sadness and regret.

Corporate America is business and the model used in employee management will probably never change, but that doesn't mean I have to like it when I am affected in such an emotional way. It would be easier to cope with if the economic market provided a better employment opportunity, but poverty and unemployment abound in our nation at a scary level. I am, therefore, grateful for a job.

However, on the flip side, I am angry at myself for choices made in my early twenties that put aside my own financial dreams while I shoved, pushed and worked long hours to provide the means for my ex-husband to finish his education. I did it thinking that in the future it would be reciprocated, but like many women, my goals were put on the backburner for later. It was a later that never came, obviously, since he is now my ex-husband and I have not reached my potential.

Because of that one choice, my life today is entirely different than it would have been if I had thought about myself first. Furthermore, I would not be looking at a minimum of probably three years of employment doing a job that I do not enjoy. I know my spewing sounds ungrateful because it isn't like I have to dig ditches in the pelting rain on a freezing day. It is just that I never dreamed that as I get very close to becoming over-the-hill, I would be so "stuck" in a job that is just not me.

Tonight, after a long day at work, I walked in the door at home, sat on the couch and cried my eyes out until I fell to sleep. I'm sure the eyelids will just be gorgeous tomorrow, but I'm sure you know all about that lovely phenomenon. I gave myself time to feel truly sorry for myself.

I didn't ask, "Why?"

I already know the answer.

I didn't curse God.

It isn't his fault. He didn't make my choices for me. I had free agency and now I am living the consequences of that free will.

Only I can change the direction of my life. Today, it feels overwhelmingly hopeless, however, my brain tells me that is truly a falsehood. I still have choices. I know if I "keep on doing what I've always done, I will keep on getting what I've always gotten." I have a little cleaning out to do at home and by the time all of that is completed to my satisfaction, it will be summer and my daughter will be graduated from high school. As I watch her walk across the stage, it will be the end of one part of my story and the beginning of another in many ways.

Tonight, I'm clinging to the only goal I have right now. I am going back to college when Alyssa graduates from high school and I won't stop going until I have that coveted piece of paper with lots of initials after my name and I'm sitting in an office that exudes sunshine and happiness. I've come too far and sacrificed too much to give up on myself now. Here's to letting all the emotional baggage slip through the holes of the colander!

Maybe I can hang onto that glimmer of hope.

On The Borderline

When the sun sets and all visible light on the horizon has disappeared, blackness as thick as the ocean is deep, engulfs everything into a silent abyss. It is the end of day and the beginning of night. This is usually a joyous time although something good is ending, but all experiences and happenings that cease are not always welcomed.

Something dramatic is occurring inside of my aching heart and foggy brain caused by all the awful things that have been heaped upon my shoulders over the past few years with the emphasis on this year. I don't know who I am any more, where I want to go and I do not like my life.

That just sounds terrible.

It even borders on ungrateful which isn't true at all.

I have lounged this weekend while washing a little laundry, cooking a few meals, watching movies, kissing the puppy, and contemplating my life - the life I don't like very much.

I know how happiness feels.

When the sun rises in the morning, it's color filled rays illuminate every crack and crevice in the landscape. Everything that was engulfed in darkness hours before has a different appearance. I've been so happy that it exudes through my fingertips, my step is light as though I am floating on a cloud and my smile energizes my face.

Since my life is now vastly different than that happiness, the doom and gloom feels even heavier.

It isn't impossible to be happy again and I can not settle for just a mediocre life. I haven't lived to this point just to stop trying and accept whatever is handed down to me.

I've changed inside and the things in my life that need changing are going to either change or I'm going to eliminate them from my realm of existence.

There is a beautiful song by Sally Seltmann that I'm going to have to sing a lot to help me move on with life and hopefully I will do it with grace. One of the saddest things is a bitter, old woman and I do not want to turn into one.

I can have happiness....it is just going to take some work.

Sally Seltmann - On The Borderline

On The Borderline

Remember when you told me in the morning
You said I was tough
Tougher than the average woman
But I guess that is not tough enough

'Cause when you left me on the weekend
I was crumbling
At the roots and the stem
Like a flower dying in the garden

Now you're gone
I have to strengthen up my little heart
Find my own way
Light my torch
And sparkle my own spark

When I wake up in the morning I feel very numb
But I'm gonna get through
I'm gonna tell myself every day

Get yourself up, get yourself up
Get yourself out of bed
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

Snapping your fingers
Tapping your toes
You are humming a tune
You know, you know
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

On the borderline from what is right to what is wrong
There I am and there I try, I try to carry on
And when I'm standing on a mountain I feel brave and strong
Yeah I'm gonna get through with or without you

Get yourself up, get yourself up
Get yourself out of bed
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

Snapping your fingers
Tapping your toes
You are humming a tune
You know, you know
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

I'm gonna change, I'm gonna change, I'm gonna change
Just the way I see myself today
I'm gonna change, I'm gonna change
But there's gotta be an easier way
An easier way to start the day

Get yourself up, get yourself up
Get yourself out of bed
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

Snapping your fingers
Tapping your toes
You are humming a tune
You know, you know
This is a new day
This is a new day
This is a new day today

I appreciate all your thoughtful words which have come from people all over the world who feel or have felt just like I do now. Isn't it mind boggling to reflect upon the vast differences between us and yet emotions such as sorrow, depression and hopelessness are universal.

My stepfather sent this to me and I thought it was worth sharing and ruminating.

Mom's Empty Chair
Image: source

Mom's Empty Chair

A woman's daughter had asked the local minister
to come and pray with her mother.
When the minister arrived,
he found the woman lying in bed with her head
propped up on two pillows.

An empty chair sat beside her bed.
The minister assumed that the woman
had been informed of his visit..
'I guess you were expecting me, he said.

'No, who are you?' said the mother.
The minister told her his name and then remarked,
'I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew
I was going to show up..'

'Oh yeah, the chair,' said the bedridden woman
'Would you mind closing the door?'
Puzzled, the minister shut the door.
'I have never told anyone this,
not even my daughter,' said the woman.

'But all of my life I have never
known how to pray.
At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer,
but it went right over my head...'

I abandoned any attempt at prayer,'
the old woman continued, '
until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me,
' Prayer is just a simple matter
of having a conversation with Jesus.
Here is what I suggest..
'Sit down in a chair;
place an empty chair in front of you,
and in faith see Jesus on the chair.

It's not spooky because he promised,
'I will be with you always'..
'Then just speak to him in the same way
you're doing with me right now...'

'So, I tried it and I've liked it so much
that I do it a couple of hours every day.
I'm careful though . If my daughter saw me talking
to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown
or send me off to the funny farm.'

The minister was deeply moved by the story and
encouraged the old woman to continue on the journey.
Then he prayed with her, anointed her with oil,
and returned to the church.

Two nights later the daughter called
to tell the minister that her mama
had died that afternoon.
Did she die in peace?' he asked.

Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock,
she called me over to her bedside,
told me she loved me and kissed me on the cheek.
When I got back from the store an hour later,
I found her .

But there was something strange about her death.
Apparently, just before Mom died,
she leaned over and rested her head on the chair
beside the bed. What do you make of that?'

The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said,
'I wish we could all go like that.'

Thankfully, I know how to pray and I appreciate all of your prayers as well. Do you find it hard to pray when life is filled with sorrow or is it where you find peace?

After The Storm You See A Naked Man

Motivational Lift

Tonight I was trapped at work because of violent storms accompanied by a tornado watch. With the winds whipping, lightening like the noon day sun and thunder cracking, I sat quietly at my desk wishing I had left on time. Just when I had decided that I might just do a little walking in the rain, we were all advised to remain inside until it blew past us.

The seventeen year old daughter who swears that I am over protective, called me no less than ten times to ask, "Are you still doing okay?" Her sweet voice was so excited about the booming thunder and lightening. She sounded like a little girl again. It truly wasn't that long ago that she was just a child, but to her it feels much different.

As the storm raged outside and everything basically stopped, I thought about grief, pain, depression, trials and hardships. When they happen, we all want the world to stop.

Quit.

Be still.

Not move.

It doesn't.

Even our immediate surroundings don't stop.

Plants grow.

The air conditioner fan comes on and goes off.

People knock at the door.

The turtle tank makes the dribbling noise.

No matter how many covers we have on top our head or how dark the room may be, life just keeps on going.

So what do we do when we don't want to exist one minute longer?Last, but definitely not the least,
  • Cultivate your hope that there will be happier times.
Stepping out of the car when I got home, I looked at the sky in amazement. Less than two hours previously, it looked as if the world was ending and now...

Well, it just proves that we should always remember, "This too shall pass."

Sunset after the storm
No color enhancement used.
This was one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen.

Are you still looking for the naked man? Maybe you didn't click all the links I gave you above. Maybe you blinked too fast. Maybe The Redhead Riter is just a sassy, older woman who is pulling your leg!

Crumbly Rainbow Dreams

Hopes and dreams are fragile.

Hope...the catalyst to making dreams come true.

Hope is the thing with feathers,
that perches in the soul,
and sings the tune without words,
and never stops at all."
~Emily Dickinson~

Hope is the thing with feathers...
Throughout life, I've hoped for things to happen and worked towards making the dreams become reality. When I married Alyssa's father, I had dreams of a brightly colored rainbow life.

I believed that I would have a house and children by the time I was twenty-five years old, a thriving business, and in-laws who accepted me for me.

We were young.

I was naive.

Life happens.

Dreams crumble.
dreams crumble
But what happens to the hope? Somewhere deep in my psyche, I believed that in order to be happy I had to have a house, children, thriving business and in-laws that accepted me.

We eventually purchased a new home, finally became pregnant with my only child, succeeded with launching a thriving business (albeit different than the one I originally believed I would own), but I did not have the acceptance of my in-laws (they all didn't hate me, but it is really a long story) nor the attention of my husband (who isn't a bad man, but we were both on different planets).

Happiness eluded me more frequently as time passed.

I buried myself in the realities that did bring happiness.

But it wasn't enough.

My hope had faded and was steadily spiraling downward. I entered some of the blackest moments of my life. Because of the depth of this sorrow and pain, I felt, said and did things that were not me. That is the only way I can reconcile it in my mind. Hopelessness is like a vulture and consumes everything. It consumed me.

The rainbow dreams crumbled.

Life has a way of letting time heal the soul...the sun continued to rise each morning, life happened during the day, the sun would set in the evening, and I would once again slip into peaceful slumber each night.

Time passes.

There remained a continued effort towards resolution. The pains and regrets got wrapped up with a bow and placed into the far recesses of the soul. The mind let go and memories faded.

The rainbow reappears with a little less color, but not quite as crumbly. Hope joins hands again with abandoned dreams and creates new experiences on the horizon. The crumbles become less noticeable and only occasionally need to be swept back into the neatly wrapped boxes of memories.
boxes of memories
Life continues.

Children grow, mature and begin the journey toward their own life dreams. Our hope for them is that they can bypass the crumbles and just enjoy the feast. However, without experiencing the crumbles, they can not appreciate nor enjoy the feast completely.

Each day we embark with hope towards our rainbows and often the crumbles feel like mountains. The rainbow may even lose all its color, but it is never completely gone. No matter how many times we choose unwisely, there is still opportunity for improvement.

The sun is going to rise in the morning.

Life happens during the day.

The sun will set in the evening.

These days may run into each other without even a blip, but eventually the fog lifts and the crumbles can be swept aside.

My fog is lifting.

My daughter's brush with death left me with crumbly rainbow dreams. It has made me more aware of the precious feast of life and the dreams that I have let drift. I want to escape from the fog and leap into a positive future, but sometimes crumbles take a while to sweep. So with steady attempts and more patience than usual, I'm working through it...

One sunrise at a time.

Hope begins in the dark,
the stubborn hope
that if you just show up
and try to do the right thing,
the dawn will come.

Following The Light

Motivational Lift

deteriorating building

From a distance, the light that is found on the other side of this shabby building holds the promise of something better on the other side. The light is bright enough that the disrepair of the building is easily ignored if you keep watching the light.

Keep that thought in the back of your mind for a minute.

Every day is supposed to be a new "opportunity" and "adventure" if we have the "right" attitude. What happens if the unexpected happens and we don't feel that life is "fun" any more? What if the events are so painful that we are ill equipped to handle them? What if our life loses all meaning because we are overwhelmed with the catastrophe we call "our" life?

There are many places to turn for comfort.

Family.

Friends found in Blog followers, and My Community Forum members.

Co-workers.

Church leaders and members.

Neighbors.

Medical personnel.

Psychologists.

All are wonderful resources to walk with through life.

I'm softly treading through one of those "experiences" in my life. Everyone is there for me with wonderful advice and comforting human compassion.

It all helps me get through the day.

I can't say that I'm quite myself right now, but I'm trying.

The list, however, is one short.

The one name I cried out for at the worst moment of my life.

The one name that I call upon all day and throughout the night.

Who is it, you ask?

God, my Heavenly Father.

The One who was at the beginning of my existence.

He is the Light that I focus on as I continue to walk through the broken down building we call life. Everyone keeps reminding me to focus on the Light because there is happiness on the other side of the pain.

I'm listening.

I'm trying to trust.

I'm leaning on my list of people.

I'm trying so hard to believe in happier days without the tormenting thoughts that plague my mind and I return to my multi-tasking, nerdy self.

Okay. That was stretching it a bit. I'll concede that I'm always nerdy.

Have you crossed through a deteriorating building and made it to the other side already? If you blogged about it, post the link. If not, feel free to share your story with us now. It will strengthen all of us and I need to hear your happy endings..

Thief of Color and Light

"Seeds of faith
are always within us;
sometimes
it takes a crisis
to nourish
and encourage their growth."
~Susan Taylor ~

Depression

should be a four letter word.

It robs you of

light,

truth,

happiness,

the future,

the present,

the past.

It lies

with a convincing argument

surrounded by a few truths

but filled with false statements.

Depression hurts

your body,

spirit,

mind,

and soul.

But it doesn't have to win.

Reach out.

There are people who love you,

care,

wish,

and hope

for happiness

just for you.

We believe in you

and know you will win

this battle

and the color will return

because we are your steadfast army

and will help fight the darkness.

You have a bright future

filled with an abundance of happiness.

It will get better...

I promise.

Don't give up now

even when it's hard

because eventually you will look back

and know that it was worth the effort.

just experiences
and your reactions to them."

I Want To Run Away

If you are depressed and want to run away today, I just wanted you to know that other people know how you feel because they have been there too. That probably doesn't make you feel any better, but my point is that you are not alone.

After working three days on a project from the moment I got to work until 7:00 p.m. each night, I finished today. The bad part is that I made a major error at the beginning which makes all my work wasted effort...and that wasn't the only thing that went wrong today.

As you can tell, I am having one of those "run away" days too.

Let's indulge ourselves for a few moments.

I want to Run Away
by Karen C Vanderlaan

I want to run away,

Just be gone – check out

I long to hide away

And bury my head in my hands

To just cry until I am all cried out

Done - no tears left

Cry till all the sad is gone

I wish for long, long hours to sleep

To rise only to return and slip back

between sheets that never cooled

I desire the sleep of no interruption

Till all the exhaustion has lifted

From my heavily laden eyes

But… none of this will I do

I will get up each day the crack of dawn

I will continue the endless motions

That make this life of mine work

Putting one foot in front of the other

Over and over again

I want to run away

Now let's get past that bad experience and remember this...

"Success seems to be
connected with action.
Successful people keep moving.
They make mistakes,
but they don't quit."
~Conrad Hilton~

It's a new day.

"You may have a fresh start
any moment you choose,
for this thing we call
'failure' is not the falling down,
but the staying down."
~Mary Pickford~

Wishing you a better day filled with sunshine!
