Not Just Any Tire

Art

Some art is different and other art is really different.

Korean artist, Ji Yong-Ho, takes something that we don't want any more and turns it into something that is unbelievable...intricately detailed, futuristic, mutant beasts made of tires.

Simple and plain rubber tires that are turned into mutant creatures. "I usually use cut tires, old tires, because I want to figure out my own unique materials," said Ji. "Tires have a lot of patterns and tires come from nature or laboratory or oil, so I want to give them second life," he said as reported in NY1 News on May 19, 2008.

Do you think he's crazy? How does cashing a $145,000 check for one artistic piece sound to you?

I have always thought art out of scraps and 'junk' to be very inventive and just plain cool. We have someone around here (Wichita) who has his yard full of scrap metal dinosaurs and I always want to stop and tell him how cool it looks.

I love these sculptures. And I certainly wouldn't mind making that much money in one go.
